The Emotional Roots of Aggression and Anxiety:
Supporting Change and Building Resilient Kids
Our students are often entering our classrooms in survival mode and bringing with them behaviours that make it challenging for us to take the lead and build relationships with them. A child’s behaviour tells us something about their inner world - therefore examining what lies behind the behaviour is key to change. This session explores the roots of aggression and anxiety and offers practical suggestions for how we can support children and youth to find emotional rest. What can we do to address aggression and anxiety at its root instead of getting caught up in the cycle of managing symptoms so that we can jump off the exhausting hamster wheel of trying to fix behaviours over and over again—and instead look at how we can support the emotion that drives these challenging behaviours and work towards lasting change.
