Crosscurrents 2022 Online

Harriette Chang
Real Acts of Caring (RAC)

In this workshop you will learn how you can promote genuine caring and kindness in the classroom, school, and greater community. You will review lessons which: are user friendly, inclusive, and support the New BC Curriculum; can be adjusted for younger or older students; provide students with exciting opportunities to contribute in meaningful ways to the world around them; support students in developing an increased sense of pride and interest in their community; build self-esteem and leadership skills; and create positive and lasting connections with others in fun and creative ways.

Harriette Chang has been a school counsellor and teacher in the Coquitlam School District since 1996. She is passionate about leadership and empowering students to make positive change in their own lives and those of others. In 2005, she began the Real Acts of Caring (RAC) Program with her students and together they have been successful in promoting caring and kindness in school and communities all over British Columbia and beyond. RAC is doing something caring and kind for another and not expecting anything back. Each year RAC is highlighted by 'RAC Week' which occurs in mid-February.
