Creating Neuro-affirming Spaces for Autistic, Neurodivergent
and Disabled Learners and Community Members
Expanding upon the morning's conversation about Autistic school experiences, this afternoon's session will summarize earlier concepts and introduce neuro-affirming practices for educators as solutions to barriers are discussed. These practices aim to create safer, more inclusive environments for Autistic, neurodivergent, and disabled individuals within both school and community settings. Attendance at the morning session is not required to meaningfully participate.
Nat Raedwulf Pogue is an Autistic, multiply-disabled, award-winning learning support teacher and novice researcher whose work centers on how to create neuro-affirming, accessible spaces for Autistic, neurodivergent and disabled people in school. She holds a Masters in Special Education and is a community partner for the Autism, Neurodiversity and Academic Achievement Lab through the University of Alberta.
