50 Years of TIE-BC = One Delicious Celebration!

Crosscurrents is fast upon us and we have some very exciting news for our in-person conference attendees!

As we gear up to celebrate 50 amazing years of TIE-BC, we want to make sure this year’s Crosscurrents Conference is extra special — and what better way to celebrate than with a whole lot of delicious food?

That’s right — come hungry!

The TIE-BC Executive is thrilled to announce that during the conference, we’ll be providing:
  •  Breakfast to fuel your morning
  •  Tasty snacks during breaks
  •  A satisfying lunch spread

And for our Gala attendees... get ready for a real treat! At the Gala Celebration, we’ll be pulling out all the stops with:
  •  A mouthwatering selection of appies
  •  Delectable sweet treats
  •  A full-on donut bar! (Yes, really!)

Gala Details:
  • Doors open at 6:00 PM
  • Speeches begin at 6:30 PM
  • Then get ready to laugh as we welcome our friends from The Comedy Department for a side-splitting improv show (no audience participation required — promise!).
  •  After the show, enjoy time to mingle, connect, and toast to 50 years of incredible teaching, learning, and community.

It’s going to be a fun, festive way to close out a day of professional growth and celebration.

Questionnaire for education professionals
The BC Ombudsperson's office is surveying educators on the state of exclusion & safety in K-12 schools. They are seeking input from all education professionals, including teachers, educational assistants, principals and vice principals, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing, physiotherapists, counsellors, nurses and others. They would like to hear about the challenges you face in supporting students with diverse needs as well as what's working well - your success stories and best practices. Would you like to share your thoughts and help a graduate research study at the same time? Sharon Varghese Kannoralil is a student in the Master of Education in Special Education at Vancouver Island University (VIU). Her research thesis is looking to understand burnout in special education teachers in British Columbia. TIE-BC President Sarah Brooks, along with LATA Vice-President Danielle Neer, SAGE BC's Vice-President Trish Harper, BCTF President Clint Johnston and BCTF Staff member Grahame Rainey met with Ministry of Education and Child Care staff on November 7, 2023 to discuss various topics related to Inclusive Education. The BCTF has developed a new workshop called Addressing Ableism. Ableism is the practices, attitudes, systems, and structures in a society that stigmatize or limit the participation, inclusion, and potential of disabled people/people with disabilities. Click ​​​here for more information.
