Inclusive Education: Heart, Head and Hands
Inclusive Education: Heart, Head and Hands
Teachers are successful in inclusive classrooms when harmony exists between their heart (beliefs and values), head (knowledge and skills), and hands (practical approaches) (3H; Sharma, 2018). Early teacher education is key in beginning to develop this harmony. This workshop draws on cross-Canada research that investigated the experiences beginning teachers shared as important for developing their beliefs, confidence, and instructional practice. Participants will actively engage in discussing and reflecting on the results, while drawing upon their individual perspectives and experiences to consider how inclusive practices in the early stages of teaching can optimally be supported.
Dr. Jacqueline Specht is a professor and the director of the Canadian Research Centre on Inclusive Education at Western University.
