MoveON: Dealing with Anger and Anxiety

Advocates for persons with exceptional needs experience different types of stress in several scenarios. Their passion for the work can drive a ‘good stress’ reaction; however, the roadblocks, lack of outcome-control and other negative factors cause anger &/or anxiety which works against the positive gains. Understanding the neurochemistry of stress gives the person new insight into their own behaviour and that of the individuals they work for. Techniques to combat the effects of prolonged stress are explored. Current research articles will be referenced to support Karen’s approach to MoveON in order to renew your commitment to the journey.

Drawing on her 30+ years’ experience as a teacher, administrator and curriculum developer,
Karen has taught thousands of students, educators and parents to understand the power of
their neurochemistry and how it drives behaviours associated with anxiety and anger. She
has worked with many organizations including several universities, the Canadian
Organization of Rare Disorders, WordFest Live 2022 and the Michigan Department of Early
Childhood. She is also the author of two books and a past-president of the Joubert
Syndrome Foundation.
